Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
On behalf of our client we are seeking a residency trained BC/BE Adult Psychiatrist to join our multi-disciplinary team in Upstate New York as the Director of the Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP).
Responsibilities will include 50% CPEP coverage and 50% consultation / liaison service for the medical side of the house. CPEP consists of outpatients who present through the emergency department seeking emergent psychiatric assessment and a four (4) bed Extended Observation Unit.
The position will not have any coverage on the inpatient mental health units.
Our CPEP provides mental health assessment/evaluation, for the adult/child experiencing a mental health crisis, in a designated area adjacent to the BGH Emergency Department, with over 4000 visits/year. Services are available 24 hours/day, seven days/week. Over one half of the annual consults are presented through local law enforcement personnel. Four Extended Observation Beds (EOB) are a short-term (up to 72 hours) admission process for the person requiring additional stabilization and evaluation. The Mobile Crisis Outreach component provides adult / children and youth interventions by a team of professionals at the individual’s home/school/work place, etc. Interim visits are provided by this team to the individual waiting his/her first appointment with a mental health provider.
Our physicians attend planning meetings and work with interdisciplinary treatment team for each patient, the physician is the captain of the ship in our system.
The behavioral health program staff works as a collaborative team and the treatment plans are developed and implemented in a collegial format. Psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, counselors and other disciplines work together to plan and deliver care to patients. We are the regional leader in healthcare. We are a community-owned, not-for-profit organization operating 500 beds.
Teaching opportunities are available with the Family Practice and Internal Medicine residents, Endocrinology, Geriatrics and Sports Medicine fellows, transitional year students, as well as 3rd and 4th year medical students on rotation from Upstate Medical University.
